AirLAN Help
Send files between your devices
AirLAN works entirely in a supported browser. These steps cover normal transfers, large files, connection problems, and the differences between desktop and mobile browsers.
Start a transfer
- Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi network or mobile hotspot and open callaxis.org on each one.
- Wait for the other device to appear under Nearby devices. If it does not appear, open Settings on that device, copy its full device ID, and use Add by ID.
- Click or tap the destination device and choose one or more files. On a desktop, you can also drag files onto the device card.
- Review the request on the receiving device and select Accept. Keep both pages open until each transfer shows Completed.
If the other device does not appear
Check that both pages are online and that both devices use the same network. A guest Wi-Fi, corporate network, VPN, or router with client isolation may prevent local discovery or direct connections. Turn off the VPN temporarily or place both devices on a personal mobile hotspot. Adding a device by ID can solve discovery problems, but it cannot bypass a network that blocks peer-to-peer traffic.
If a transfer fails or becomes slow
Move the devices closer to the access point, keep their screens awake, and avoid switching networks during the transfer. Wi-Fi congestion can make a large file dramatically slower even when an internet speed test looks fast, because the file is using the local path between the two devices. A 5 GHz or 6 GHz connection is often faster at short range, while 2.4 GHz may be more reliable through walls.
A temporary connection interruption can resume from the received position while both browser pages remain alive. If either page is refreshed, closed, or discarded by the operating system, the sender must select the file again. AirLAN cannot continue in the background after a mobile browser has been suspended.
Saving large incoming files
When supported, a desktop Chromium browser asks for a save location and writes incoming chunks directly to that file. This avoids holding the entire file in browser storage. Safari and mobile browsers use the storage method exposed by their platform, and a very large transfer can exceed that browser's available memory or site-storage quota. Make sure the device has enough free space before accepting.
Safety checklist
- Accept files only from a device name and file list you recognize.
- Keep the original until the receiver opens the saved copy successfully.
- Do not close either browser tab while a transfer is active.
- Use Hidden visibility when you do not want new devices to discover or add you.
